“It’s so horrible goodness we are not dying for COVID-19 but we will die from hunger.” The previous employee described how the COVID-19 situation has impacted her community in the Philippines differently, but devastatingly.
When the pandemic spread worldwide in March 2020, many places were lockdowns all of a sudden. This caused people to lose their jobs temporarily or permanently, having no income to buy food; the limits of lockdown caused the struggle for families–only 1 person is allowed to go to the market and get food stock for the entire family with limited time.

The donation was from the founder of LAYANA. LAYANA spent some time figuring out what was going on in the Philippines so it could help the founder to make up his decision of which is the quickest way to save their food insecurity - a donation of money or delivery of goods to the Philippines. At the end of the day, $3,000 USD was sent to the Philippines.
The food insecurity in the community was slightly relieved after they received the money. “All we need is groceries and rice.” She said. The first action was buying 20 bags of 25 kilograms of rice which benefited over 10 families in the community. The rest of the money can help them to go through this challenging time.
LAYANA Company has close friendships with overseas employees especially Filipinos, which whom we have been cooperating for over 25 years. During this difficult time, hoping this effort can at least save a corner of the world.
