This year, Layana co-organized the “I Love Kids Summer Camp” with the Happy Paradise Foundation. It is a three-day, two-night camp for 120 underprivileged children, aiming to celebrate summer vacation, promote self-discovery, and raise awareness against drug use through fun and educational activities.
The camp was sponsored by various enterprises and organizations in Changhua, and Layana contributed by providing the venue, manpower, and meal donations. High school student volunteers led the elementary school campers, fostering teamwork, mutual encouragement, and discipline among youths.
In addition to watching movies, water activities, and exploring Lukang, we also focused on anti-drug education, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention, legal literacy, and emotional education. Anti-drug speaker Mr. Kao shared that he had been imprisoned 11 times due to drug use but turned his life around and now dedicates himself to warning children of the dangers of drugs. During his talk, a girl raised her hand and said, “I’d like to be friends with someone who uses drugs because I want to help them.” When asked why, she replied, “Because my dad is serving a 13-year sentence for drug use.” The room fell silent, and our hearts ached. At that moment, we realized this wasn’t just a course—it was real life.
As the camp ended, the confident smiles of the children and the strong bonds formed with their youth mentors moved us deeply. If these young seeds can grow and influence those around them—or even change their own future—then this summer camp was truly meaningful. As a co-organizer, we were honored to witness the transformation in these children while contributing to society alongside our pursuit of industrial innovation.
